We use the A Beka Book approach to Christian education which keeps learning lively, interesting, and memorable. These materials reflect sensible theory that is firmly anchored to practicality, developed as a result of over forty years of actual classroom experience in one of America’s largest and most respected Christian schools.
Bible
The Bible is taught specifically and systematically to all students
each day. The stories of the Old and New Testaments in the lower grades
lead up to a presentation of the more abstract statements in the New Testament
epistles and the wisdom books for older students. Students not only understand
the Word of God, but are motivated to obey it.
English
Because God has given us the great commission of communicating His
truth to mankind, we must give our students the finest tools available
to carry out this goal in a reasonable, well-articulated manner. On this
basis, we believe that there are standards for man to adhere to in language
as in all of life. This is why our grammar books emphasize structure, rules,
analysis, and the kind of practice that aims at mastery. This is why we
place an importance on correct spelling and the continual enlargement of
each student’s vocabulary. This is why we aspire to provide students with
examples of the very best literature of the ages, and this is why we emphasize
the continual improvement of writing abilities.
Fine Arts
Children receive instruction in music appreciation and theory one
hour per week. They participate in a select choir and instrumental classes
when they are available.
History
Students are given a realistic view of history, government, geography,
and economics based upon the foundational truths of the Scriptures. Our
texts reject the Marxist/Hegelian conflict theory of history in favor of
a truthful portrayal of peoples, lands, religions, ideals, heroes, triumphs,
and setbacks. We present government as ordained by God for the maintenance
of law and order, not as a cure-all for the problems of humanity. We present
free-enterprise economics without apology and point out the dangers of
Communism, socialism, and liberalism to the well-being of people across
the globe.
Mathematics
We believe that the laws of mathematics are a creation of God and
thus absolute. We teach workable, traditional mathematics that is not burdened
with modern theories such as the set theory. Besides training students
in the basic skill that all students will need all of their lives, we teach
students to believe in the absolutes of the universe, to work diligently
to get right answers, and to see the facts of mathematics as part of the
truth and order that God has built into the real universe.
Physical Education
A planned physical education program includes organized activities
designed to develop good sportsmanship and good physical health.
Science
Science is the study of God’s order, provision, and reasonableness
as revealed in His physical creation. Our Science and Health Program presents
the universe as the direct creation of God and refutes the man-made idea
of evolution. We give the students a solid foundation in all areas of science—a
foundation firmly anchored to Scriptural truth.
